This cartoon is addressing the issue of sending aid to Britain. Before America was involved in the war, the Neutrality Act was passed. This act prevented America from sending aid to Britain. However, Franklin Delano Roosevelt wanted to pass the Lend-Lease program which would send Britain weapons and after the war the weapons would be returned. Not everyone agreed with this, especially people that supported American neutrality. Dr. Seuss was opposed to Neutrality, and in this cartoon he depicts congress as old men with long beards. The year is 1951, six years after the end of the war. A member of congress is asking if anyone sent aid to Britain. Dr. Seuss is saying that America should not wait around until it is too late, they should help their ally. This cartoon is proof that Dr. Seuss was a strong advocate for war and he wanted America to take action. Also, this proves that Dr. Seuss believed the leaders of America were misusing their power and wasting valuable time.
